He performs Open and Laparoscopic surgery for Liver, Pancreas and Gallbladder diseases. Dr Shah is a Founder Member of the Australia and New Zealand Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary Association (ANZHPBA).
Dr Shah is accredited by the Gastro-Enterological Society of Australia (GESA) to perform Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy and ERCP.
After completing his General Surgery training in Mumbai, India Dr Shah augmented his skills in HPB and GI Surgery in the United Kingdom, then in Australia. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow & the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Dr Shah is the Deputy Director of Surgical Services at John Hunter Hospital and is currently the most Senior HPB Surgeon at JHH. He is actively involved in the mentoring and training of junior doctors and trainee surgeons and he is proactive in his commitment to research at both the University of Newcastle and New England University. Dr Shah has admitting rights to both Newcastle Private Hospital and Lake Macquarie Private Hospital, together with public hospitals in the HNELHD area.
